Importing photos on iPhone to a Mac

When i try to import my photos on to iphoto it says that there is a error and it can not import?
why is this and what can i do to fix?
Im using iPhoto 08.

Is it something to do with the res of the photos or the way they are saved?
very very annoying.

Not sure, I do mine through Image Capture and then import to iPhoto. Seems to be working fine.
