I have a consistent problem when importing PowerPoint presentations created on Windows to my Mac, which uses the latest version of Office/PowerPoint Mac - Office 11. The problem is that the Mac version of PowerPoint doesn't correctly convert bullets. It looks like the problem is that a lot of Windows PowerPoint presentations are made with a font called Wingdings, and this font doesn't seem to be installed with Office 11.
The problem might have nothing to do with importing from Windows, because if I launch PowerPoint into an empty presentation, write a single character of text and select it, the Bullets & Numbering dialog shows the same error, as shown in the attached screenshot. So I think the problem is not simply an import problem.
Anyone else experience this? Any suggestions or workarounds?
EDIT Well, this was very simple to solve: Quit all applications, open the Font Book application, scroll down to the Wingdings fonts (all three), and Enable them. Quit Font Book, start PowerPoint, and open the presentation. Voila! The bullets appear correctly, and now the "Format Text" dialog (pictured below) appears correctly. I hope this helps somebody who Googles this one day.
