About 2004 I connected a VCR to my Canon Optura 20, turned on the DV out A/D converter and easily imported hours of video into iMovie. But my career got busy and I never finished the job. It is now over 10 years later and I want to import more tapes. I have the same hook up as before. iMovie will import from a dv tape that is in the camera, but when I switch to a VHS-C tape in the VCR and attempt to import through the Canon A/D converter, the video displays in the iMovie import window but it won't record it. That is frustrating. In the upper left of the import window it says 'camera not controllable". That seems to be the problem - iMovie can't control the Canon if there is no tape detected internal to the camera, but if there is a tape internal to the camera it won't allow the VCR source to be played. Any suggestions?
