importing video from camera in iMovie09, will it delete it off of my camera?

My parents want me to do some editing for them using iMovie, but they do not want it to be erased of the mini tapes. Wili iMovie delete them off of it if I import them in?

It will ask you if you want to keep the movies on your camera or delete them.
