Importing video to imovie from Canon DC19

I have been given a Canon DC19 from work, which records onto mini DVDs and only has USB output. When I plug the camera into my Macbook it detects it as a blank DVD, despite having recorded footage, and obviously imovie doesn't recognise USB.
Any ideas how I can get my footage into imovie?!
