I purchased a 3G last year at launch and went through 4 replacements before finally getting a phone that didn't have dust, a misaligned glass screen, a scratched bezel, poor to no 3G reception, a broken wifi chip, weak GPS reception (never gave solid dot ever), and a abnormally weak battery (proven by Apple instore diagnostic).
I purchased the 32 gig 3GS yesterday and have yet to find a single thing wrong with it. Perhaps I got lucky or perhaps the build quality has improved but I'm impressed none-the-less. After last year's frustration with my 3G I swore I wouldn't be an early adopter and would wait out the initial batches in an effort to avoid shady builds. The hype got the best of me again so that didn't come to pass.
Regardless, I'm impressed.
