Anyone have one of these Iomega hard drives that are currently on sale on Apple's website? I'm just about to purchase one but wanted to see if anyone had any positive or negative feedback on them. There are no helpful comments on Apple's site about them, which makes me think they must be fairly new.
Thoughts? Good? Bad?

Iomega just supplies the enclosure. The big concern is is it a Maxtor,Seagate, Western Digital or what type of drive.

Just an FYI, but you can get the same drive cheaper at NewEgg here (of course, shipping makes that a wash I suppose):

And for approximately $40 more you can get the same drive with Firewire, which may be helpful depending on what you plan to use it for.

The Firewire one also has some user reviews (none up there for the USB-only model though).

Both of those go to the same USB model. :D

$140 for a 500GB is not a bargain at all. Like the other posters have mentioned, be sure to check NewEgg! Also keep an eye on techbargains.com or dealmac.com.

I just got mine. ...It's terrible. I received it this afternoon, and its power supply whines and crackles, and before completing its first backup, it starting making the infamous "click of death."

These problems aside, the build quality was also disappointing ...it just doesn't feel/look like a drive that can withstand the daily backups of time machine (the reason I bought it, of course).

I'm very disappointed with both iomega and Apple, and I'm really not looking forward to speaking with Apple tomorrow...

EDIT: Or maybe not... please visit this thread
