I know there is a lot of general dislike of the current Photo's app, I'm not one to say what's right or wrong, everyone has their own opinion. I for one really like the current photo's app and pretty much have been since the start of iOS 18.

What I don't understand is why the big feature announcement that the Photo's app will have a separate tab for collections so its similar to what it was pre iOS 18.

iOS 18 Photo's app - swipe up for Collections
iOS 26 Photo's app - tap the tab for Collections

For me a swipe up is an easier movement than pressing a tab for Collections. Aside from the difference in a one gesture way to get to Collections, what other 'improvements' are there?

Putting Collections into a separate tab feels like its hidden away. The current iOS 18 view reminds you of the collections at the bottom of the screen, it feels a seamless scroll from recent to old photo's. I've got to admit, since the introduction of iOS 18 Photo's app its the most I've dug into my years of Photo's that I've never done before just because it really does surface all the old Photo's rather than hide it behind a tab.

I do hope they give the option to retain this current iOS 18 view.

Personally I like the collections hidden away. I like to be in “all photos mode” OR “albums mode”, not both. I like the new tab
