When I checked the screen assembly, I've realized that they deepened the screen surface compared to the rubber edge, which gives a more protruding, stronger support against the metal frame.

I suspect this is not accidental and was created with the purpose of preventing screen damage, by increasing the gap between the screen and the keyboard when the lid closed.

I'm thinking maybe I could use the new machine without a screen protector/cloth..?
