I'm seeking some advice on upgrading my home media network.

Current situation is a ReadyNAS duo streaming to a Squeezebox Boom in the kitchen using Squeezebox & iTunes server and a copy of the iTunes library on my 2010 MBA. My router/ReadyNAS etc is by my TV and surround sound network. MBA backs up to the ReadyNAS using Time Machine.

I'd like to be able to stream music to my main music system and elsewhere through the house so am assuming Airplay is best for this. My understanding is that an Airport Express allows a link to a music input on my AV receiver? Would this work with itunes served from the ReadyNAS?

The ReadyNAS takes quite a bit of configuring/maintenance and is currently stopping me from upgrading to Lion as the NAS firmware needs updating (only a new Beta allows this). Its also in my front room, since it needs to be connected to the router . I also can't play iTunes downloads on my Squeezebox.

I'm considering buying a Mac Mini or even an iMac but am struggling to justify the expense right now. What I'm looking for is a couple of suggestions regarding an upgrade/expansion path that does not incur abortive cost but allows better streaming of iTunes in the short term. Is an Airport Express enough to allow streaming to my receiver or do I need an ATV2 as well? If so, would buying a Mac Mini be more cost effective, more capable and allow me to move my ReadyNAS to another room?

All help appreciated

Thanks
