I had the 17" MBP and couldn't stand bringing that anywhere with me. The new 15" MBP is heavier than before, it was too big for me to want to bring around with me so I went for the 13" Aluminum which is awesome to carry around.

I think you need a third option.

I personally don't think the 15" MBP is too big based on my experience with the previous model.

However, the new MBP does seem a little heavier and bigger making it less portable.

Ultimately, I think the MBP is portable if you don't carry it around all day. But if you're constantly on the go then no.

if it's just from the car to office, car to home, its fine.

17" definitely not portable.

I agree to some extent. I carried a PowerBook through 2 years undergrad and 2 years grad school. One required more textbooks which is why I separate the years. That said, carrying it around in a Timbuk 2 bag with the padded strap add-on made it possible, but it was still quite heavy.

The 15" is portable but now that I have a 13" I'm not going up in size if I can prevent it.
