I haven't seen anyone make mention of this or show it off. Does it behave like QuickReply or something else entirely?

In order for this feature to work, the developer has to put the API in their app.
It's my understanding that it's a new API developers can use to enable it in thier apps. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me.
Just like in app email
It works just like sending an email within one of your apps. It let's you send an SMS to someone without having to exit the app. If you want to share an article from one of your rss reader apps, you might be able to choose to share via email or SMS. It won't let you reply to SMS messages that come in while you are in an app directly in the app though.
