In-camera photo edits reduce image size?

I went to send an edited pic to my wife today and it came up as 834kb....normally, they are 2-3mb on my 4S. I do recall either enhancing or cropping in the app. Would either of these have reduced the actual image size?

Well cropping certainly would, as you are reducing the number of pixels. But, iPhone could also be recompressing at a different compression rate after an edit.
