This worked for the original iPhone.

On the iPhone 3G, the normal "This is not designed for iPhone...turn on Airplane Mode?" box ended with "Charging is not supported for this accessory."

This was fixable by the Scosche passPORT - http://www.scosche.com/products/productID/1667

Does anyone know if the iPhone 3GS charges through older in-car accessory cables/hookups? Or if the passPORT still works?

(my particular cable is the Alpine KCE-422i.)

I'm actually having problems with my passPORT and 3GS. There is this high pitched hiss/whine that comes through the speakers. This even occurs when I put it into airplane mode.

Doesn't work with my iPod touch 2g either. Maybe I just got a bad one or something.

I went straight from an original iphone to a 3GS so I never realized there was a problem. Now I'm in the same boat where the car system I have will play and control the iPhone but not charge it. I'll try one of the scosche adapters.
