In Furthering My Mac Knowledge

So I used a program called Disk Inventory X to show me what is taking up space on my hd. So What I would like to know is what is sleepimage? And what are the things ending in google. They take up quite some space and I am curious as to what on earth they are. So PLEASE help me in furthering my mac knowledge :D

sleepimage is an image of the system RAM used for safe sleep.
