IN I-MOVIE can i import from a dvd and then capture single frames,then save them to a memory card?

No, you have to convert the MPEG-2 encoded .vob files into .mov files, as MPEG-2 is a distribution codec and not meant for editing.

Search this Digital Video forum for a lot of threads about this.

If it is only screen grabs you want, you can use VLC player for this.
