iPhone XR -> iPhone 11

iPhone X -> iPhone XS -> iPhone 11 Pro

So if you have a X then updating to the 11 is a downgrade right?

Nope. Better camera, better processor, larger screen.
Sure - no OLED , however the 11 will last you much longer

In reality, in day to day use, there is little difference in any of the five phones you mention. The best way to describe it is that iPhone X has nicer materials (stainless steel) and a nicer screen than the 11. The 11 is better in all of the other ways (camera, battery life, processor).

The iPhone 11's display is compromised to achieve that $699 price point. So you will notice a downgrade in display quality from a X (OLED to 326 PPI LCD).

Worse is in the eye of the beholder. For me, the 11 is worse than the X in terms of the modem. 11 will use Intel for all carriers while the X used Qualcomm for CDMA carriers and SIM-free.

Summarized perfectly.
