In order to do a fresh install, erase entire HDD or Macintosh HD?

I booted the Mac into recovery mode and I have the option of erasing the entire HDD or just the Macintosh HD partition. If I erase the entire HDD, will I lose the Lion recovery files? Or is that on a separate partition?

I need to know for future reference if I ever want to start a fresh copy of Lion or if I ever plan on selling my Mac.

Erasing the Macintosh HD partition will suffice, as the entire HDD holds the Lion recovery partition and the Macintosh HD partition.

Just the Mac hd partition

I'm not sure you can do the recovery partition, thought it was locked. Could be wrong.
