After ripping a homemade DVD (original source of DVD content was old VHS) with Mac the Ripper...

In order to maintain quality and put into iMovie and ultimately iDVD, do I want to use Handbrake to convert the resulting video to .avi or .mp4 or something else?

Is Deinterlacing worth it for what I am trying to do?
