In OS X Lion, how can I make my Mac forget old hard drives?

It randomly renamed my external from ElementsDrive to ElementsDrive 1 which is conflicting with my downloads. It won't allow me to rename it to the original, and just keeps adding the 1. Can I make it forget all previous drives so it can accept it without the 1, or something?
 
Have you restarted your computer? Most likely, it didn't get unmounted correctly, and the original reference is still in the /Volumes folder. Restarting should fix that.
