I'm thinking about upgrading my iPhone3G to the iPhone3GS when they get some in stock @ my local AT&T store. Will I be able to buy it and activate it at home, or will I have to activate it in the store like I did with my iPhone3G?

Tell them it's a gift if they give you any guff.

I wouldn't want some random stranger's grubby fingers on my new phone either. That's why I ordered from Apple online.

Depends on how and where you buy it. If you purchase it and have it delivered to your house, then you won't need to have it activated in the store. However, If you buy it in the store, they'll probably want to activate it there fore you before you leave.

Official AT&T policy is that a phone can't leave the store without being activated on an account. However, you might be able to get an exception.
