In-Store Pickup at Apple Store?

So I'm going to be out of town next Friday (release day) for a conference and was wondering if choosing in-store pickup at the nearest Apple Store would be my best bet on getting my iPhone 5 at launch (not going to try having it shipped to my hotel).

I wouldn't be able to pick it up until 12:30pm. I assume Apple would hold my phone for me there? Has anyone done in-store pickup?

they won't do in store pick up for launch day. It creates too much confusion, so it is not even an option at check out. In store is first come first serve

Nope, your best bet will be to get out to that Apple Store and hope they still have the model you want.

It has the option to pick up in store when you check out

Edit: it has the option but you can't select it.
