How does it work when you order a phone online to be picked up in store when you have an old phone you want to trade-in? Will they refund the difference back to you or give you a useless giftcard that can't be used towards the purchase of the phone.

You have the option.

They evaluate your phone, make you an offer and load the number on the GC (if you accept it). You can use it towards the purchase of your phone or save it for later. Up to you.

Nope, they just took the phone.

Just back it up before you go. They will instruct you to do the reset before taking the phone off your hands
