$399 off contract will move iPhones in any country but the USA.

Remember Apple tried first the $599 method in June 2007. Than in September 2007, they had to lower the iPhone to $399.

Americans are fickle with paying more than a penny for a phone on contract. It was hard enough to get them to pay $199 with the carriers subsdizing the rest. Now carriers know it's a love/hate relationship with Apple.

Carriers get the customers. But they subsidize probably $350-400 for each iphone vs. say $200 for a Windows phone or $100-250 for an Android phone.

So in the USA, I belive a low cost iPhone no contract will have to cost $299 to sell in bulk. The magic number is below $300. It won't happen. Unless Apple is still selling the iPhone 4 Q3 2013. iPhone 4 for $299 that's 3 years old off contract.

Hate to disappoint u, even Apple's main rival had to sell the S4 for 250.

Not sure what you're saying here. This is with contract. Without it's 699

Yep although a cheap Samsung 3.5inch smartphone can be purchased here for under 200, but those are still carrier branded. Closer to $250-300 clear.

If the cheap iPhone happen I would think it needs to be iPod touch replacement price point.

$450

I voted for $299 but if you see the trend; Apple might just replace the iPhone 4/4S with low cost 4" iPhone at $449 price

$450 - Low cost 4" iPhone plastic and may be A5X processor (similar specs as iPhone 4S but with 4" screen size)

$550 - iPhone 5 - 16GB - current model - A6

$650 - iPhone 5S - the new model starting at 32GB and with A7

For it to be successful, how much do you think Apple should charge for a less expensive iPhone (assuming one will be introduced)?

I am thinking around $250. The reason for this is not primarily in the united states buy certain countries in south america and India, etc. cannot afford the phones, and they need to reduction in price in order for the iPhone to be competitive within their marketplace. However they cant lower the price without sacrificing some quality.

It will be cheaper than 5s but not a cheap smartphone, according to apple's standards, so I figure it about 349$ at least.

No way it's cheaper than an iPod touch. No way.
