According to Apple, no. Workarounds? I am not sure. You can do some search before you buy it.
Actually, the only part you will miss is the LTE feature. Anything else will work no matter where you are.

Not sure the cellular is any more than a nice-to-have as I’m never without my phone anyway and can’t envisage making a call or streaming music in the pool or shower

I’d still get the cell model for the nicer back and more storage. No way I’m upping my Verizon bill by around $15 for something I don’t need.

With new watch maybe only 2-3 months away and maybe new watch will work in U.K., why not wait

Most likely you’ll still have a watch 3 option after new release only at a reduced price.

But Apple may just offer Series 3 in GPS without LTE once Series 4 is out

Doesn’t sound like LTE will work on S3 anyway for him

I’d say cellular is worth it (we’ll, it is to me anyway) so I’d wait til you get back and buy one that will actually work here.

I agree. $15.00 additional is to expensive. I mentioned before I believe Apple and Carriers should better implement a more affordable set rate plan for users. Its a nice function to have, but I question how _much_ users actually utilize $15.00 ‘worth’ of LTE service to appreciate it. I gather it is nice to have though in those moments where you may not want to be tethered to you’re iPhone, but I still believe $15.00 is considerably higher than most consumers went to pay on an already likely expensive carrier bill.

Thanks all. US watch definitely won’t work in UK on cellular, so I’ll hold off.

If you are allergic to composite back, you have to buy a cellular watch no matter what. If you don’t have that, it should be fine. LTE watch also has more RAM and double the storage.
