Incase today announced the launch of new Woolenex case options for the AirTag and the AirPods 3. The Incase Key Clip with Woolenex is designed for the AirTag, and it is a lightweight, form-fitting case that covers the AirTag in Woolenex and adds a TPU snap enclosure with key ring.

The Incase Key Clip comes in graphite gray and blush pink, and it has an open front and back window to allow for signal and sound output.

Incase's Woolenex Case for AirPods 3 is a made from the same material, and is meant to protect the AirPods case from scuffs and scratches. Underneath the Woolenex, there is a lightweight injection-molded polycarbonate shell to add durability and protection from impact. The case comes in asphalt gray, cobalt blue, and deep red, and it has a matching strap.

Woolenex is Incase's lightweight fabric blend that is used for a wide variety of accessory case options. Incase says that the material is woven from two thicknesses of polyester fiber to create a slim, strong material that offers abrasion and weather resistance.

Along with these two Woolenex accessories, Incase is also introducing the Reform Sport Case for the third-generation AirPods. Available in black and rose coral, the case features a two-layer design with a hard exterior shell and a soft interior to protect the AirPods case from drops.

The Incase Key Clip with Woolenex for AirTag is priced at $19.95, the Woolenex Case for AirPods is priced at $34.95, and the Reform Sport Case for AirPods is priced at $39.95. All three accessories can be purchased from the Incase website and directly from Apple's online store.

Fabric.

A material that soaks up sweat, dirt and liquids.

On what screwed-up planet would anyone want a phone case made of fabric?

Disgusting.
These seem like they'd be quite challenging to keep clean & hygienic.

The non-porous high quality silicone Apple use for many of their cases is a superior choice from a hygiene perspective.

Would this really be much different from leather, a material people love to use for phone cases? Even looking more broadly, leather’s used for things like watchbands and steering wheels, where it’s constantly soaking up sweat and bodily grime. No one seems to mind.

For me personally, I would probably prefer some type of like silicone or synthetic leather, especially with a consistent contact your hands will have when touching keys. This type of keychain material makes me think of something from like the late 1990s from Levi’s.

Actually it doesn't do any of those things. InCase uses Woolenex for computer cases, AirPods cases, and backpacks, among other things, which get handled far more than an AirTag would. I've used Woolenex AirPod cases for years with zero issues. No sweat or dirt marks at all and I use my AirPods every day.

Have you tried this material? It's not a sponge. It's more akin to waxed canvas - very tightly woven, it's not soaking up anything.

Exactly. In fact, on InCase's website, it states explicitly that Woolenex is finished with a water-repellent top coat that keeps water out and prevents the growth of mold, mildew, etc.

The issues that the OP mentioned are not issues at all.

Was wondering what Woolenex is, thinking is it wool? Nope.

According to Incase, "Woolenex is a tightly knit, versatile material woven from two different thicknesses of polyester fiber. By leveraging fibers with varying diameters, we accomplish a truly intentional fabric. The result is an unrivaled balance of lightweight, durable textile with beautiful color depth."

I guess Polyesterenex wouldn't have sounded as nice. 🤣

Correct. Silicone works great - there's no problem to fix.

No one needs fabric.

It's simply worse.
Fabric can be washed and is biodegradable. Silicone can be washed but is not biodegradable. I’ll take fabric... just not this fabric cos it’s made of polyester which is made using harmful chemicals and is also not biodegradable.

Yes, fabric is usually better than silicone but not in this case [pun intended] since this product is, as you noted, made using a polyester fiber and is not biodegradable.

If someone really cared about the environment, they not only wouldn't use a case for an AirTag, but they wouldn't be using an AirTag either.

I’m not talking about being an environmental purist. If you’re saying people who are concerned about the environment shouldn’t use AirTags, then basically you’re saying they shouldn’t use any useful modern invention which is silly.

In this case, there are clearly many alternative materials that could be used for AirTag holders that won‘t contaminate the environment… traditional fabrics, humanely sourced leather, hemp, etc.

How is this brand doing lately? I remember owning a backpack it was amazing! Nowadays they have no supplies in EU shops for 2 years…

I have this cover on my MBP13 and like it quite a bit. Will be putting it on my MBP14 once Incase has them back in stock.

Nice. May I ask, what color is that? It looks gray in the photo. The Apple USA site and the InCase site only show black and pink as color options for the AirTag holder.
This is the black one, it looks darker in person.
