Incoming emails not showing up

I added my Gmail account and my iPhone doesn't update my new mail until I go into the app. I thought it should automatically push so I receive notifications that new mail was received?

I also checked my settings and made sure they're checked to push. Any ideas?

This worked! I just added a Gmail account on my phone but didn't know it had to be under Microsoft Exchange. Thanks!
