Hi, all,
New iPhone 13 mini owner here. Actually, more relevant is that I'm new to no-home-button iPhones. I understand about the feature to unlock your phone with your Apple Watch when you are wearing a mask or sunglasses, and it works brilliantly for me some of the time. But I've noticed that it has worked for me inconsistently. Oftentimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I understand about the bug that had been reported with the first version of iOS 15, getting an error message that indicates the phone could not connect with the watch. This is not what I am experiencing. The phone simply will not unlock when this happens.
So my question is actually, are there certain circumstances where by design the feature doesn't work? Perhaps I can correlate the instances I am experiencing with those. For instance, I can see that apps that normally unlock with Face ID will not be unlocked with via the Watch. Are there other examples?
Kind of along the same lines, I'm having bad luck going the other way as well. With my previous phone (SE 2020), my Watch reliably unlocked when I unlocked the iPhone; I did not need to enter the Watch's passcode, I just had to lock and then unlock my phone. This is usually not working for me on my 13 mini. Sometimes it does, but most of the time it doesn't. Again, are there circumstances that need to exist for this feature to work?
I'm running iOS 15.2, and my Watch is a Series 5 running watchOS 8.3. Thanks for any wisdom you have!
