Incorrect date after FAT32 creation

Can anyone tell me after using Disk Utility to format USB drive as FAT32, the "Creation Date:" in Get info displays the incorrect date "created 1970" ?

At a guess, I'd say that FAT32 doesn't have a "space" to store the creation date, and therefore the OS fills in a default value.
