I'm on my macbook trying to change my password since it's been a few years since I had it. I try to enter my current password it says "incorrect password" and I know 100% I'm entering my password correctly since I use it a lot to download apps and such. What should I do?

The password that you enter to download apps, or to install an app, will be your admin password, the same password that you use to log in to your admin account. It is NOT the same as the password for your AppleID (which Apple has renamed "Apple Account" ) - unless you have decided to use the SAME password for both your AppleID and your system user admin account. You can check that in your System Preferences (changed to Settings since macOS Ventura), where you can look for "Users & Groups", where you can change your user, or login password, if you still need to do that.

Oh wow I'm such an idiot lol thank you!

Not such an idiot, I think.
You did come here to ask a good question.
(I get to play the idiot here, sometimes, but... I try to learn things as I go along. Maybe I can help someone during the process.)
