"Increase Uni's free WiFi signal strength"-device for Macs

Hello!

My Uni offers free WiFi in my housing. In theory.
10 meters outside my door the signal strength is quite good. On some weird days I get a signal if I sit by a window.

So, instead of paying lots of cash for private WiFi, is there a USB-device, standalone-device, ect. that act as a super-wifi-antenna for my macbook?

I know such devices exist, most often I see them as DIY affairs. From my understanding you are capable of seeing these distant networks, and possibly connecting. But actually seeing decent performance shouldn't be expected. I'll see if I can scrounge up some information for you a little later on today.

Edit: Had some downtime at work so I dug up a couple of the DIY WiFi extenders I've seen.

I've never tried these, and can't give any evidence that they will be good choices for your situation. Based on what people commenting on those builds are saying, it does seem that they do work.
