I used to think it was just my iPhone 4S. But now I know it's iTunes that's the problem. Apps sync INCREDIBLY FREAKING SLOW.

I have only 310 apps (14.73 GB). Thats 15,083 megabytes (120,664 megabits), worth of data. Over USB 2.0 speeds of 60 MB/sec. (480 megabits/sec), this amount of apps should copy to my phone in 251.38 seconds (4.19 minutes). However, it actually took appx. 4800 seconds (1 hr., 20 mins.). That's weird, because that makes my transfer speed 3.14 MB/sec... which is pi MB/sec.

Apps should not transfer at the speed of pi MB/sec. That is really, really, really slow. Is this Apple just trying to be cute? Is it some form of copy protection to use pi MB/sec as the data transfer rate? Intentional slowness?

Either way I don't like paying $400 for a top-of-the-line iPhone 5S and then having the freakin' thing transfer data at 5.23% the speed of USB 2.0, when my computer has USB 3.0 and the phone has a Lightning port (that maxes out at USB 2.0 speeds according to what I've been able to gather).

I have called Apple and spoken with a senior advisor to let them know this has to be the result of a bug. I can't believe that it would take 1 hr., 20 mins. to sync apps that slowly over a Lightning cable. Maybe over 802.11b... but seriously, the internal memory of the iPhone has got to be faster than a 3.14 MB/sec. write speed. That's only 25.12 megabits per second.

For reference, a 64GB SanDisk Extreme memory card writes at 90 MB/sec. Surely Apple's iPhone has memory that's as fast as a professional memory card for cameras, if not faster. For the extra $200 they are charging for the upgrade from 16GB to 64GB... it better be faster than pi!

Is anyone else noticing this issue? Maybe there is something wrong with my Mountain Lion installation? Apple Support tells me that this transfer rate is "expected." I told them that if this is the intention of the engineers then they need to make new intentions. Because there's no reason this ought to go this slow. Something's just wrong.
