I'm looking for an NAS device for my home network. I want to be able to mount it as a drive on my mac laptop and access it from my XBOX with XBMC installed. I'm a student hence price is a concern.

I have been looking at the WD MyBook, but it seems that mac is poorly supported on that device. I also looked at some LaCie devices, but I saw some bad reviews of their product so I don't know about them.

Does anyone here know of a product that will suit my needs?

Thanks in advance
JD

If you know what to look for in a used computer (to check for damage, potential problems, etc), then an old PowerMac G4 with gigabit ethernet will work perfectly. It's way more flexible than a NAS.

QNAP TS-209 is one of the best, but comes in at £233. so not exactly inexpensive.

Freecom Network Drive Pro is pretty good and only costs £160.

IcyBox NAS 4220 isn't bad and only costs £93.

Take your pick.
