Info off of iMac HD

My last computer, iMac g5 ambient light sensor, crashed due to some of the liquid capacitors bursting. Now that I have my new computer, 15" i7 MBP, which is just fantastic I would like to transfer over some of the information. Namely music and some other files. All the music I have on my iPod so if I use one of those free transfer it would work as well.

Thing with the iMac is that it will maybe run for a minute or two in regular mode but I am not too knowledgeable in the target disc mode and all that.

Turns out the iMac is completely dead so the hard drive is now out of the computer so what would be the best way to get the info off of it? it is a western digital model:wd1600jd what type of hard drive enclosure would I have to look at to make this work?
