Infrared Headphones???

Is it possible to stream audio from an ipad through multiple IR headphones? I am working on building an overhead docking station for the kids to watch movies in our van on long road trips. I know there is one being sold for around $300, but that's too steep(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtNjzHPhYmY). After watching the video, they have to be streaming the audio through the headphone jack on the iPad. Can this be done using one of those IR transmitters that turn an iPad/iPod into a remote?
