I don't think the IR receiver at the front of my MBP will be used, seeing as I'm not looking into buying an apple remote anytime soon. However, I was wondering if there was any software out there that would let me use it with other devices.

One specific thing i was wondering was if there was any way of accessing the IR receiver in boot camp Windows 7 to receive signals from an Xbox 360 controller (without the USB receiver attachment sold by MS)

Xbox 360 controllers don't use IR, unless you are referring to the media center remote, so you would still need the USB dongle.

Apple remotes are $5 on eBay and super useful when paired with XBMC/PLEX and mDP->HDMI adapter. It makes for the perfect portable media center.

Actually Xbox controllers do use IR, I am trying to get mine to hook up to the receiver on the front of my :apple: MBP, however PS3 ones use bluetooth, and a fully compatible with OSX (not sure about Win7)
