Is the Infuse 5 Pro update worth it for $6.99 ?

Edit: make that $6.99 a year or $12.99 one time fee and charges for upgrades.

If you haven't bought it before, it's worth it. If you bought 4 recently, tell them you want to upgrade and just bought the 4, maybe they'll give you a discount.

Streaming from cloud services, especially OneDrive made me upgrade. It is a nice to have. Can upload my content to OD and have it stream to Infuse. Sounds sweet. Let's see if that works as sweet.

For anyone who wonders if it's worth it, they offer a one month free trial for the Pro version.

I've previously purchased Infuse Pro 4 and the upgrade to Infuse Pro 5 is definitely not worth it for me. I have been waiting for slide over and PIP to be implemented, but I'm not paying subscription fees for apps (unless they are providing services such as on-line storage). I buy once and own that version. Yes, there is a Pro version with a pay once price, but I've already paid for Pro version 4 so my thought is that the upgrade should be free to already Pro users or a minimal upgrade fee, not a full price.
I may continue to use Pro 4 or I may use one of the other player apps that I own, but I am not giving them more money.

What you can do is purchase Infuse Pro 5 and then request a refund from Apple. That should give them a wake-up call.

Unethical perhaps, but not really if you just bought Infuse Pro 4 right before the release of 5 (I did).

You are being excessively vindictive.

I didn't buy Infuse, but it didn't take me long to give them the benefit of the doubt and find this: https://firecore.com/forum/topic/16168

What we're doing to make it right

As an act of goodwill towards those who supported us up to this point we will be offering a free 1 year subscription to the new Infuse Pro for all users who purchased Infuse Pro on or after August 1st, 2016.

Please follow the steps below to claim your free code.

  1. Locate your purchase receipt for Infuse pro (more info here).
  2. Open a support ticket here and attached a copy of your purchase receipt.
  3. We will email you a redemption code with instructions on how to redeem it.
Please note, since Apple provides us with a (very) limited number of redemption codes there may be a short delay before you receive your code. We get a fresh batch of codes when each new version is released.

I bought the full v4 pro app, bought the added IAPs released in the meanwhile, and I have been waiting for split-view and PiP. Now they want me to pay again for a feature that was added on *all* main apps on iPad. I will switch to nPlayer. I think it's better to support other developers and not Firecore that wants me to pay a fee every year for a movie player.

Bough v4 pro before and struggled a bit to purchase v5. Luckily they are now offering 30% discount so just try it out. Not much difference except the Split-view, PiP & iCloud sync features. Though I'm willing to support developer with year subscription, I still hope they offer more to justify the extra spending.

I recommend to merge this thread with this one https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/infuse-for-apple-tv-released.1942307/page-38 as the developers are answering all questions and complaints there.

What would that do?

Why would someone want the subscription based model when they previously purchased the full app outright?

Unlimited major updates.
The subscription model allows for the developers to get paid continuously for the work they put into the future versions. A full pricing option allows people to not require the subscription and to keep their copy forever, but only receive minor updates and have to pay for major ones.
