hey,

i just got a popup window exactly mimicking the Apple Software Update program. I was on a windows computer, so it looked comical being in a IE 6 window, but on a mac (with safari having same user interface as OSX) it would look exactly like software update itself! heavens knows what happens if i click to update "Apple Software Patch" on my windows computer. lol, screenshot attached. is it just me, or would this be a really affective popup on a mac? it really suprised me to see it, i had to check and make sure i really wasent using my macbook pro.

i havent installed itunes on this computer fir months, so, id say its not related. im almost certain its not from apple because im on a windows pc? why would i get apple software updates? furthermore i didnt even have any apple programs like .mac or itunes open at the time. it certainly seems like a clever popup but i could be wrong. just thought its wierd, and i wonder how real this would look on a mac? im pretty sure its not from apple, when i clicked the install button it acted really wierd and used firefox loading things etc and gave an error message. any ideas?

Is it just me, or would this be a really effective popup on a PC? Apple has Software Update for Windows too, you know. Are you SURE it wasn't ACTUALLY Software Update? Pretty sure it installs with iTunes.

Was it actually a popup window or was it one of those "pop-in" Flash ads that appears over the page you're viewing? I suspect it would still look like WinXP even if you saw the ad on a Mac.

I installed this update and now Safari loads in just two bounces instead of three!

Expose also feels a lot more snappy.

You should definitely get this bodacious update!

ok, i fear i may have reacted to cynically at first. given that im on a PC is it possible that i can still receive a legitimate apple software update? i have to say, it looks shifty and i dont feel like installinga virus. if it was legitimate id think it would mention "itunes updater" or "ipod updater" or something, but its just the generic "apple software update." it wasent an overlay on a website, it was a seperate window. again, take a look at the pic. what do you think?????

wow, ok, my bad. a tad embarrasing lol. whatever, now i know. sorry for wasting your guys's time
