Initial Time Machine Backup is Bigger than the HD being backed up?

Why is this happening/how can I fix it?

If you read what it says you will understand it. Time Machine needs more space than the actual backup in order to do more backups and a buffer/work space.

Try to exclude some folders from the backup.

Where are you backing up to ?
