Initialize CD?

I ran an update yesterday for a superdrive firmware upgrade.

Today when inserting a blank disk I get this error message:

You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OSX can read. To continue withe disk inserted, click ignore.

If I click 'ignore' nothing happens, and i can't see the disc

If I click 'initialize' the disk utility app opens.

What gives?

Have you tried other blank discs? Do commercial discs work normally when you insert them?

Ooops!

Not yet... Only got the one with me.
Will definately try that later today.
