Hello everyone!
I've searched the site and Googled my issue but I can't seem to find an answer or explanation. So I'm hoping someone will be able to help.
I have a late 2015 MacBook Pro with retina display running on macOS Sierra. I use a WD external hard drive for Time Machine backups and some other files. I also use the same hard drive to backup my late 2009 iMac desktop running on macOS El Capitan.
When I run Time Machine backup for my iMac, it goes smoothly each time. No issues, whatsoever. Now, when I run a Time Machine backup for my MacBook Pro is a different story. It looks like it's going on smoothly, but I noticed I don't see it go through the "Finishing" and "Cleaning Up" phase of the backup; it just finishes and I get a notification that backup is complete. Sounds good, right? Not! When I check the backup files saved on my WD external HD, I see an .inprogress file and the backup file. To my understanding, and from what I've read, the .inprogress file is created when a backup fails or has any problem. Again, I didn't encounter any problem that I see and even see that my backup "completed" so I'm at a loss why the .inprogress file gets left behind. I was able to delete it and empty my trash, but I wouldn't want to keep on deleting the file each time I do a backup. Anybody have any idea why I'm getting it in the first place and how to fix it so that the .inprogress file doesn't get left behind after a successful backup? Thanks in advance!
