Okay so I am sure like many of you, I am hard pressed with the decision of either getting an MBP now, or wait until the expected refresh in January.
After reading countless threads, posts, articles and ideas here is the summary, and what I may do.....
As always, it is anyones guess what Apple is going to do....they may wait, or may completely revamp its line.
Right now I am on a 24" Alu iMac and I am in need of a laptop. I need the laptop for 1. school and 2. design work I am doing around the city. Both of these point towards the need for a laptop. Now the big question is "wait, and buy later?" or "buy now" and what I say is buy now. Unless you are absolutely in desperate need of a faster, upgraded processor I can understand....but if you only want the upgraded machine to have the newest thing, frankly the current MBP has plenty of power and going to be just as sexy as the new ones BECAUSE they will look exactly the same. Another thing to consider is, when you get the newest, biggest, baddest MBP there is a strong chance it will be upgraded within 3-4 months. As I have heard over and over again "if you keep the mentality that you are going to wait until the next upgrade, you will never buy a computer" tech is always increasing in power and portability. Chances are, when Apple releases an amazing refresh for a notebook, within the month they are designing a new one. Another thing to consider is it is projected to be by Q1 2010, that is up until March. Other sources have said by H1 2010, that is June! Not only that, I have noticed it is common for Apple to introduce a new, or substantially better product in lets say January, and not ship it until March. Also, what if Intel is bombarded with requests for the Arrandale chipset? That wait may even be a little longer...Last but not least, what if Apple doesn't even adopt the new chipset right away? What if they only do a speed bump to the current C2D? A likely configuration would be 3.06 and 3.33 for the high end. That is more, and more waiting for Arrandale.
Current gen MBP is a beast, it's sexy and it's just....incredible
Next gen MBP will be a beast, it'll be sexy and it'll be just....incredible
Next next gen MBP will be a beast, it'll be sexy and it'll be just....incredible
Next next next gen MBP will be a beast, it'll be sexy and it'll be just....incredible
so on, and so forth.....
Thats just my $0.2
