hi guys,

i use insomniaX, so i can close the lid of my MBP without it falling asleep.

now is there any way to get the display to turn off immediately and automatically when doing that?

thanks

Try Control+Shift+Eject with it open, then close it.

excellent! thank you so much!

... i still notice that the display turns on if you accidentally touch the mouse, though.

is there another way to make sure the display stays off, as long as the lid is closed?

Don't touch the mouse...

LUL, turn the mouse off at night. I save so much battery that way.

Click the insomniax icon in the menu (if you run it there) and just disable it at night. You can't ask your Mac to do two different things, as we know the only way to destroy artificially intelligent machines is with contradictory conundrums...and you don't want that, do you?

no, sir. i don't want to destroy my machine.

i'm just a little puzzled as to why this is possible on a pc, but not on a mac.

Um...because you're running insomniax?

When I close mine, it always goes to sleep...as is the default setting <.<

I'm pretty sure you already know this but just in case, you could just reduce the brightness until the screen turns off. The mouse won't activate the display anymore.

It's not automatic or instantaneous as you requested but again, just in case.

thanks, mate. also good advice and i've tried it before, but it's not the solution i was looking for.

The point of InsomiaX is so nothing gets turned off when you close the lid, therefore that's pretty much the only solution you have.

If you connect a keyboard, mouse, and external display, you can wake the computer and keep it on via power preferences [with the lid closed].
