Insta360, known for its line of cameras that are able to capture 360-degree photos and videos, today announced the launch of the next-generation Insta360 ONE X2, a followup to the Insta360 ONE X.

The Insta360 ONE X2 features the same familiar rectangular shape with 360-degree lens, but there are several additions, including a small preview screen that lets you see what the camera sees while also offering touch gestures.

The ONE X2 captures 5.7K 360-degree video, there's a larger 1630mAh battery, four microphones for better voice capture, and IPX8 waterproofing, so it can be used for capturing underwater content.

There are multiple shooting modes, including 360, Steady Cam for making flat videos, InstaPano for creating panoramas, and MultiView for displaying two angles at once. 360-degree video can also be edited using the Insta360 iPhone app to pull out the most interesting parts of videos.

FlowState stabilization is designed to keep the Insta360 ONE X2 steady, with new stabilization and horizon leveling algorithms for smooth video even without a gimbal. Like prior Insta360 cameras, the ONE X2 comes with a selfie stick that the Insta360 intelligently edits out.

Other features include built-in app templates for adding cinematic video effects, subject tracking, AI-based video recommendations, and TimeShift hyperlapse videos where playback is adjusted.

The Insta360 ONE X2 can be ordered from the Insta360 website today for $430.

This looks amazing, but something I would almost never use. I have considered buying their GO camera though...

Yet another "One" product, along with:
Palm One
Nokia 1
Capital One
OneDrive
OneNote
XBox One
Beats 1
Apple One
Google One
Cisco ONE
Backbone One controller

Have these marketing departments run out of creativity or just stopped caring? When is this insipid “One” fad going to die?

Won’t become an api with Apple until they release the :apple: Glass then we’ll see stereo photos and videos on newer devices.

"known for its line of cameras". I have never seen or heard of these actually being used. Doesn't seem that well known. Does anyone actually use them? For what? Sincere question.
Yes, people know of them and use them.

Are they universally known? No, of course not, they're not a household name.

360-degree cameras allow you to shoot scenes that a) you can't easily get any other way and b) allow you to re-edit gaze after the shooting is done. So, they have some fundamental advantages over traditional cameras.

Not so say that they don't have shortcomings, which they do. But it's a neat new way of getting unique shots.

I own one and know other people that do. You can create videos from a unique perspective. I use mine when I hike. Put in my bag attached to invisible selfie stick and record myself in 3rd person. It’s one of two 360 cams that support matterport software too.

Also, if I recall right, much of the editing is done on your device, such as an iPhone, hence the connection to MacRumors.

I personally do not like the fish eye effect.
I have a GoPro and that can be switched to a linear mode which has no distortion at all.

these are THE 360 cameras of the last 2-3 years, gopro has a similar camera that isn't as good. anyone looking for a 360 camera has heard of them... but the problem is 360 cameras are still very, very niche. this new camera is the best of its kind for now.

as can this, any 360 camera can fully reframe its image... you literally are capturing ALL of the world around you (no need to point the camera at all) and then with special software you can literally draw a 16:9 frame of any kind anywhere and it reframes. the problem is of course that the entire image is 5.7k but by the time you reframe down to what you ACTUALLY want to image quality of that smaller segment is much, much less than 4k so compared to a 4k camera you point at something the quality is less. the flexibility of what you capture and can do AFTER the fact is why these cameras are amazing for dynamic video like snowboarding, surfing, mountain climbing etc. but if you just want images of your vacation or a friend doing something you will get better results from your iPhone, conventional GoPro, or Osmo Pocket 2.

I have a One X and use it regularly on holidays. This is a great device, much better suited for my needs compared to normal action cams.
Ultra nice all around dynamic pano video shots, not only stationary as other stitched photographs.
The extended selfie stick lets you take cool drone shots wherever drones are forbidden.

I have the insta360 one x camera. Its a interesting camera. I used it for recording airsoft games mostly. Also when i went out for taking photos I would attach the camera on my bag and it would record when I feel like i am in a interesting/captivating area. Its a cool camera but i guess not for everyone...

Insta is legit in the 3D / 360 world of cameras. Second (this is an opinion) only to the big boy Z Cam K1 Pro .

I'm (still) waiting for the 3D mod for the Insta360 ONE R Twin Edition.

Sharing adventures via Oculus Quest 2 with friends and family is an entirely different experience. Sharing 3D video of you hanging out by a fire in the woods via VR is insane compared to standard 2D pics. Same for trips to Venice, Malta, heck anywhere!

This is my new, obnoxious part time hobby. Creating as much 3D content as possible. I like to travel and some people cannot ( my parents, for example ).

It's not a fisheye camera. Only the raw capture is fisheye, once the images are stitched, they're full 360. It's the same as how prey animals see the world (fish, birds, grazing mammals). They see everything in every direction at the same time. They don't have fisheye vision. And this camera doesn't either. You can have a tiny plant if you want, but you don't have to.

This is a pretty good point, and I'm assuming the Oculus Quest 2 can view such content without tethering to a PC?
