Instagram for iOS received a major update today, adding three new filters to the app: Lark, Reyes, and Juno. Lark brightens up images and adds purple tones, while Reyes adds a vintage-looking fade with yellow tones. Juno is the boldest of the three new filters, brightening images and bumping up the contrast for a more stylized look.

Today's three new filters come four months after Instagram added Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Aden, and Perpetua, the first new filter additions to the app in two years. With those five filters, Instagram began focusing more on subtle improvements, a trend continued with the three new filters added today.

Instagram has also gained emoji hashtags with the latest update, so it's possible to use emojis to create hashtags to enable new ways of tagging and finding photos on the image sharing service.

Now I can leave a coffee emoji hashtag to go with my coffee pictures!

I'm joking, but it will happen.

Whats the point of a 8 MP, 3264 x 2448 pixels camera enabled phone , just to use filters and make them look like pics taken on a flip-phone

instagram was born at a time when the filters made the pictures look much better than what the phone's camera could do natively.

now, as said above, it's about having fun.

Seems they're definitely trying to combat VSCO, first with the fade functionality and now these filters being very similar.

What is Instagram anyway?

It's basically a photo uploading community with social networking capabilities. After you register with Instagram you can upload photos, comment on them and see photos of other users and like them and/or comment on them as well. You can search by "hashtags" (that's a "#" with a phrase that usually relates to the image, that way they can be found if someone is searching for that specific phrase) and view photos of others relating to that topic (or not, if they implent the hashtag in a stupid or false way). This is more or less it. Some probably don't have any use for it, plenty of other people seem to enjoy it, for whatever reason :) .

If I get hooked on it, I'll tell you! #

I like the new look, which IMHO is a welcome improvement. What ticks me off is the fact that it crashed at least half a dozen times since I updated it this morning (yes, I probably use it more than what would be considered a healthy dosage).

I am still on the version right before they made the videos loop & not being able to pause with a tap...guessing that's still the same?

Yup, still no pausing videos once you've started them. They do stop and rewind, though, if you scroll up or down until they're gone from the screen.

They pushed out a couple of what looked like quick bug fix updates since they released the updated design version yesterday, probably to fix crash/stability type of issues.

Just updated it, and it seems estou be more stable indeed. Thank you! :)
