Instagram: Public or Private?

For those of you who have an Instagram, is your account public or private? What is your reasoning behind having a public account versus a private or vice versa?

Mine is private, though I will admit I sometimes take it off and make it public when I use hashtags to get more likes if I'm at a concert or event or something (stupid, I know). I feel weird having random accounts follow me, but I might go public soon because I think it might be a cool way to possibly meet new people?

Plus, I don't really have anything on my Instagram that I wouldn't want my employer or anyone specific to see.

I used to have mine set to public, but set it to private recently. I don't really care about meeting people and if you're that curious into what I'm up to, give me a call or shoot me a text instead.

Anyone else?

Last night, I made my profile private and posted a pic of myself and used a bunch of hash tags. I got about 20 new followers and close to 150 likes. It felt good. But now I'm wondering if it's a tool-ish thing to do lol. Again, I'd like to make more friends and meet people, and I feel like more and more people are doing that via social media these days. Just not sure how to feel. Maybe I'll go back to private...

I do not have an Instagram account but I know some of my friends prefer to have a private accounts.
