I was just browsing Instagram and suddenly they’ve disabled my account, why do they do this? this is my personal insta as well which has so many memories on. I doubt I’ll get a reply to my appeal but has this happened to anyone else?

You mentioned you appealed your account being disabled but you did not share with the reason that they gave. Did they just send you an email that said you violated terms of service and that was it? or were there further details?

Just a suggestion as someone who doesn't do Instagram-

Don't let it ruin your Christmas. Put your phone down and spend time with family and/or friends, then sort it out after th holidays.

Don't let a social media platform ruin the day...
Just a suggestion from someone who recently closed their IG account after years on the platform: Take @bunnspecial's advice. You're missing so very little on IG!

They deactivated my account too for violating tos. No details given.

Your (my) filler pics were just making money for Facebook. Create a website and have fun - but don't violate anything.

What was life before social media - newspapers and TV with 3 channels.

^^^ +1

These social media sites are not a storage solution for one's pictures

To the OP, if you haven't deleted you picture storage on your device. Instagram may have created a folder of images posted to IG.

So I basically ended up forgetting about this and enjoyed my Christmas, I really appreciate all the replies to this post and I hope everyone had a great Christmas! I got no info on why the account was deleted or anything, but I did always follow a lot of people and like quickly on posts so I’m wondering could the algorithm thought I was a bot? Thanks

Possible. Sure looks like a not-so-smart AI erroneously flagged you. It happens more often than one would think

And then to appeal - one has to hand write a code (they send) with your name and the IG account name on a 'clean' piece of paper and hold it up to your face, take a mug shot, and email it back to them -- and wait for their ruling.

I did this but no response, it’s so annoying!, but there are worse things going on

I saw the same issues on Reddit about responding to the IG deactivation. Maybe IG is culling certain accounts, and focusing on a more curated environment. As I mention, if you want to have a collection online, create a website. I have seen basic hosted WordPress environments for around $1.50/month.

It could be bots/spammers reporting your account to get theirs as a fake/spam account. This happens quite a bit on artists, where the thieve/fake/spammers are reporting the original account to the point that the original is banned/disabled, allowing the thieve/fake/spam accounts to thrive and steal. Many small time artists suffer from this, and Meta/Facebag does nothing.

Meta/Facebag with their billion dollars, but cannot even hire people to see what’s obvious.

Unfortunately, yes, it did happen. The only thing I can advise is not to give up and constantly remind the administration and those of my problem. support. Then the likelihood of unlocking will increase.
