Install a ssd

HI,

I have been wanting to install a ssd into my imac 2011 27inch.
I dont want to remove the hdd that is inside atm, but want to have the unit boot from the ssd and keep the hdd as a file storage.

I have seen alot on youtube about this but i want to know a few things before i go ahead and purchase the ssd.

1: What ssd should i go for sata 2/3 ?

2: Will the fans always run?

Along with the toolkit mentioned above, try this link to see the step by step video instructions for your iMac. I used that toolkit, and an OWC SSD, and installed it per the linked video. That video will give you a good idea of what is involved in the addition of the SSD. You must be very gentle with the connectors, and take your time.

If you leave the existing HDD in place, the fans will not run out of control. For the SSD, you use a second SATA III connector on the logic board and place the SSD under the Optical Drive.

I've been real happy with the results in mine.
