Newbie question :
Can I replace the stock DVD unit in a MBP with a Blu-Ray version ? Are there connection/driver issues ?
I want an internal drive just for DVD use in Win7 running in Parallels to avoid having to connect up an external unit.
I know it won't work in OSX, but that's not the objective.

Thanks.

You should be available too if it his the right connection there shouldn't be any driver issues at all

Is there even a drive small enough to fit into an MBP? As far as I know, slim Blu Ray drives (slot loading) are some millimetres too high to actually fit an MBP. What about an external solution? There are dozens available.

OK, thanks. I guess external it is.

Anybody tried to use a Silex USB server with a SATA-USB enclosure ?
I have a Samsung SATA DVD drive in one of these enclosures.
If I connect it directly to my MBA then OSX recognises the Samsung DVD unit OK.
If I connect it to the USB server (other side of the room) that connects through WiFi then OSX only recognises the SATA-USB chipset not the Samsung DVD unit.
Connection path is :
Samsung DVD unit in SATA-USB enclosure > USB connection to Silex USB server > Ethernet to Airport Express > WiFi to MacBook Air

Native Win7 (on a PC) recognises the Samsung DVD OK.
OSX recognises an Epson scanner connected the same way OK.

Maybe not a question for this forum - I'll repost on the Peripherals section !
