Dears,
Canon provided me with a message that my Canon pixma MP810 cannot be used anymore with my freshly re-installed iMac running Yosemite.
This is a little in contradiction with my experience since the day Yosemite was released and installed (= upgrade from earlier OS versions) on my iMac
=> it worked fine without any issues, printing and scanning all the way! ;)

Does anyone have experience in which driver to install (and how???) to make sure it works fine again?

(Remark: I have a time machine backup, but if I reinstall the complete system copy, my iMac ends-up again in the not-so-funny slow status as before the fresh install....)

Thanks,
MVa

I think you may be out of luck under Yosemite. From the Apple website here, Apple does not include printer drivers for that model any longer. I just checked the Canon website and they show no drivers for Yosemite either for that model.

Looks like that model came out in 2006. Maybe time for a new printer.

So... indeed...I logged a ticket on the canon website and they replied that my printer is not supported anymore. (unfortunately it was working fine under yosemite 2 days ago due to this upgrade after upgrade after upgrade feature apple provides :)

Try this driver, freshly minted by Apple:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1742

I have two "boat anchor" printers, including an older-than-yours Canon MP620, and I downloaded a previous driver from Apple (once I got that email from Canon about my MP620) and installed it. The Apple driver worked perfectly for both printing and scanning. I also DLed and installed the driver linked-to above and it works perfectly - the actual driver for my MP620 is listed in Printer Options as 11.0.7, which did not change with the new driver. I recommend installing the new Apple Driver and checking it out to see if it suits your needs, and it's working for me.

For a few iterations of Apple's new drivers were shown on Software Update, but the new driver did not. Knowing now that the actual driver (11.0.7) wasn't updated for my printer, I understand why the new update for Canon's printers didn't show up in Software Update. I was never a fan of Canon's kludgefsck mishmash of software anyway...

My second printer is a really old Samsung laser printer that was never listed on Apple's site - it was made before Apple supported printers (an ML-2010). I DLed the driver for a similar printer that Samsung makes, and the Apple printer driver works perfectly for my Samsung as well, even the advanced options.

Struggling with scanning from Canon MP600.

OSX says this GutenPrint app is from an unidentified party and won't allow it. I vaguely remember a switch somewhere in preferences that gets around this?

Note to myself: Don't upgrade operating systems without expecting some pain.

System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> General

Hi!

Is your problem resolved?

I've got the same since I restore my Mac yesterday: it didn't recognize my MP620 anymore! Even if it was usb connected.
The installed drivers didn't work and Canon website write "no compatibility with Yosemite".
But I try to install Mavericks'drivers (the latest availables for MP620) and it works fine!
I'm so happy because I saw myself already have to buy a new printer!
